With the school year in full swing for our Kindergartener – We’re just waiting and anticipating our Preschooler to get started. In fact – Tomorrow – Ethan starts PRESCHOOL! They start later so that families can really get out of the whole ‘back to school’ mania out of the way. We’re doing this preschool program just a few days a week and just a few hours a day, but Ethan is SO excited. He keeps asking every day, sticking up his fingers, asking how many days till preschool! So today we have a few things planned to get him fully ready: We’re preparing another Mason Jar so his teacher can have a beautiful bouquet of flowers for her first day of school. We also don’t have backpacks or school supplies to get for him: but rather an Ice Cream bucket that we’ve worked all summer (or maybe a week during the summer) to empty, and a snack or two to share with the class during the year.
I never really expected ‘starting school’ to be such a huge adjustment for our whole family. But it is a welcome one – as our lives have been pretty chaotic for the last 5 1/2 years. We really just play-it-by-ear most of the time. Thankfully, our teachers don’t play anything by ear, and spend hours out of their days (even outside of school) planning and preparing for our students! So many teachers are even planning out their financials for the school year – figuring out the best way to buy supplies, snacks, and learning materials for their students that are unable to be supplied by parents and school budgets. Did you know that three in five K-8 public school teachers say their students regularly come to school hungry, and as a result these teachers typically spend $37 per month from their own paychecks on food for their students? It may not seem like a ton – but that equates to teachers spending about $1 billion a year stocking their own classrooms.
But – You *CAN* help! By giving your children a well-rounded and filling breakfast including specially -marked Quaker products and entering the unique package codes online at QuakerUpForClassrooms.com by September 30th.
