When the time comes and we’re ready to become parents, we all want to be the best we possibly can – that especially goes for mothers. There’s nothing quite like a mother’s love. As youngsters we all think about what it would be like to have our own little fledglings – we think about what they’ll look like, how they’ll behave and what they’ll go on to achieve themselves. It’s a weird and wonderful little fantasy that we concoct.
But now the time has arrived, you and your partner are keen to start the family that you’ve always wanted. The excitement of potentially beginning this new chapter is flowing all around you. There’s just one slight issue: you’re not too sure what the whole process is actually going to be like. You’ve seen it everywhere, but you never really understand until your living through it. It’s okay; we’re all the same! Let’s run through some of the things that you’ll want to do along the tough but rewarding journey.
Making Sure You’re Really Ready
If you’ve talked about it over and over and planned things out, then good for you. This new era will be built around the kid(s), and you have to be ready for it. It sounds like a no-brainer, but there are countless amounts of couples all over the world that have fallen in love and wanted to start a family on what appears to be a whim, only for the spark to go a little later.
Lose The Bad Habits
We all know that alcohol is a big no-no when you’re pregnant – stay away from it entirely if you want your baby to be as healthy as possible — drinking while pregnant can cause your baby to develop a severe condition called fetal alcohol syndrome. Cut out the smoking, too, if you partake in that particular habit. The smoke will likely reach the baby and mess with its oxygen and food supply. It could be fatal.
Exercise
It’s obviously important to keep active during normal everyday life, but it’s also important to do so while harboring a child. You’ll want to keep yourself healthy so that everything is running smooth. Building up body strength and endurance will benefit you a lot as you’ll be able to deal with the pain a little better and it’ll help cope with labor. Exercising will also help you sleep better, so that’s good!
Eat Healthy
Similarly to keeping yourself on the move, what you put in your body will have an effect on how the pregnancy goes and how healthy your baby will be. When you’ve got a little child in your belly, the cravings are all over the place, so it’s understandable that you might want to stuff your face with some junk, but let’s keep that to a minimum!
Gliding Through The Pregnancy
These nine months aren’t going to be the smoothest nine months of your life. There are going to be worries, niggling pains, some stress, and you’ll probably be annoyed by everyone at one time or another. It’ll be worth it though! You can talk to professionals if you’re having any problems, you can use clever tools like using Bloomlife to track contractions in real time, and you can even talk to friends who have been there before. You’ll want to make sure that everything goes as well as possible.
The Big Day
Welcome to the first day of the rest of your life. Everyone says this is the greatest day of their lives and with good reason. You never quite know this type of love until you hold your newborn in your arms for the first time. You have to make sure you’ve got people around you for when the time comes.
The First Few Weeks
You’re probably a little experienced in being sleep-deprived by now due to the pregnancy, but be prepared for how it’s going to be once you’re back at home as parents. There will be a lot of crying that you will have to deal with, and they will be awake at the most random times! If you’ve not practiced changing diapers and burping yet, you’ll be in for a big crash course.
Teaching And Nurturing
Finally, we’ll mention the behavior side of things. From a very little age, a child takes things in like a sponge. You’ll want to set the best example for them. You’ll want them to mold into a beautiful, sweet little human with all the manners in the world and the way you’ll do that is by showing them how.
