There will be days as a mom when you regret having kids. That sounds ridiculous but we promise you there will. It might not even be a day, it could be a moment. A single moment that is immediately corrected by your mind. Kids can be hard work, parenting is a tough gig and sometimes it can feel like you’re constantly facing an uphill slope. The good news is that there are plenty of great things about being a mom to think about during these times. It can help you, almost immediately, get your head back to where it should be. So, let’s take a look at some of the wonderful things about being a mom that you have perhaps overlooked.
Mother’s Day
Are you wondering why Mother’s Day is celebrated? This dates back to when the mother goddess was worshipped in Roman times before quickly becoming Mothering Sunday in England and other parts of Europe. It is now a worldwide, beautiful tradition. One of the great things about this time of year is that it gives children a chance to show how much you mean to them.
Most kids really do deliver as well. Okay, until they’re about seven or eight dads will do most of the work. But eventually, they will love putting the time and effort in here. Whether it’s to make you breakfast in bed or take you out shopping, they will show you how much you truly mean to them.
Sharing Your Passions
It’s great to pass on things to your children. One of the best things you can pass on is certainly your passions and loves in life. This could be the music you grew up listening to, the films you adore, your life experiences and so much more. You can show your kids who you were and still are, providing them with a path for their own future. You can share in loves and appreciate their passions too as you watch them become a completely unique individual of this world.
So, whether you want to give them a taste of The Beatles, let them wear your jewellery, teach them the right way to apply makeup, or sit them down to watch all the Star Wars movies, you’re going to love this time.
The Adult Connection
While it’s easy to appreciate enjoying time with your kids when they are young, don’t forget one day they will be adults. This opens up a whole other world possibility for you and them. It’s when you stop being someone that needs to guide them and you become more of a friend. We’re not saying you’ll be like Rory and Lorelei from The Gilmore Girls. Instead, you’ll have your own special relationship with your children as they continue to grow.
Another Life
Finally, studies have shown time and time again that there are psychological benefits to having kids too. It allows us to know that even when we’re gone something from us – our kids – continue to live on. It can mean that you will have an easier time coping with your mortality and you will get to watch your legacy grow before your eyes.
