Texas is a great state that has so many great towns and cities to visit, but most people only tend to explore Dallas when they go there. It’s a great city to visit with the family and there is plenty going on there, but it’s only one small part of what Texas has to offer. If you’ve already been to Dallas before and you’re looking for a slightly different experience next time you visit Texas, you should consider Plano. It’s only around 30 minutes drive from Dallas so you could even visit on a day trip while you’re staying in Dallas. It’s a great mix of urban and rural Texas and a lot of people find that it’s a nice, serene alternative to Dallas so it’s ideal for a quiet weekend away. Rich History
If you like to explore the history of a place, Plano is ideal for you. The historic downtown area of Plano is filled with lots of beautiful old buildings and small side streets to explore. These days, most of the buildings have been turned into retail stores or bars and restaurants so you can do some shopping or grab something to eat while you explore. You should also pay a visit to the Heritage Farmstead Museum while you’re there. This unique museum gives you an insight into the lives of farmers in Texas during the early 20th century. It’s a great place to take the kids for an educational day out, and you might just learn something yourself.
Great Food
Texas is known for its hearty, traditional food and if you go somewhere like Dallas, you’ll get some great Tex Mex and rib joints, but Plano has something a little different to offer. You can still find great Mexican inspired food if you head to the best taco bar in Plano TX but if you want to try something different, you should get down to the legacy food hall. You’ll find anything from chicken and burgers to lamb shawarma and fresh donuts. The interesting thing about the legacy food hall is that it was designed by restaurateurs and purpose built as a food hall, so you get a very unique dining experience there.
Adventure Activities
If you’re going away with the family, you need to find ways to keep everybody entertained and Plano certainly won’t disappoint. There are around 70 parks in Plano where you can do all sorts of fun adventure activities. There are plenty of opportunities for hiking, swimming, and cycling through the picturesque countryside. You should also visit the Go Ape Treetop Adventure Course which is great for families, as long as you’re not afraid of heights. If you’re a sporty family, there are some sports fields in the parks and some great golf courses around Plano as well, so there’s plenty to keep you busy during your stay.
