If you’re obsessed with travel but haven’t been on an adventure in a while, it’s worth asking yourself why you hold yourself back from doing something you love. Many adults give up traveling when their lives become established, only to regret it later.
If you’re at risk of letting your passion fall by the wayside, take note of the most common obstacles that prevent adults from traveling the world (and the solid arguments for why they shouldn’t get in your way).

My Parents (Or Grandparents) Need Me
Whether your older loved ones depend on you for logistical help or emotional support, you need not feel guilty about going travelling if you make appropriate arrangements for their care. Hiring a trusted professional to see to your parents’ personal care will give you peace of mind while you’re away, allowing you to make the most of your experiences. Of course, your parents might miss you, but that doesn’t mean they would want you to stay and look after them when you’d rather be out there exploring the world.
Financial Barriers
While you might associate world travel with the extravagantly wealthy, you do not have to have loads of money in the bank before you go graveling. The truth is, you can spend as much or as little on travel as you want. If you want to stay in expensive hotels and splurge on champagne and room service, that’s one way of doing it, but you’d only be missing out the more authentic experiences you could be having if you stretched your budget and lived like a local. Bear budgetary concerns in mind when you choose your destination, and you’ll have less to worry about once you get there. For example, you could get a three-course meal (and change) in a cheap travel destination for the cost of a high-street latte in Milan. And remember, once you’re on the road, your expenses are limited to food, accommodation, and transport. You don’t have to stress about your usual expenses like electricity bills.

Travel Means the End of My Career
When people tell you that you’d be throwing away your career to go traveling, they could not be more wrong. When you come back and head out into the job market, many of the most marketable skills you have to your name will have been gained through your experiences traveling the world. Travelling—especially solo—demands everything from resourcefulness to flexibility. Add to that the wider perspective you will have on the world, and you may find that you are an extremely desirable candidate.
Tied to a Mortgage
Buying your first house is an exciting milestone in your journey as an adult. But just because you’re paying off a house doesn’t mean you’re chained to that abode for the duration of your repayment period. Why not rent your house out while you’re away? Depending on where you’re traveling to, you may be able to cover most of your travel expenses with the rental income alone! If you’re not a born landlord and you’re not comfortable taking tenants, consider a house-swap. This allows you to have a holiday somewhere else in the world by swapping homes with a family who would like to visit your hometown. While this might seem like a scary prospect, reviews and community ratings make it very secure.
If you’ve started settling down, don’t let these common excuses stop you doing the things you need to do in order to feel inspired. Travel need not be off the cards if that’s what you want.
