Do you feel as though you are waking up way more tired than you did before you went to bed? Maybe you just feel as though you have been struggling to get to sleep and it is compromising your lifestyle overall. Either way, there are a few things that you can do to try and give yourself the support you need.
Exercise
Sometimes strolling around the block right before bed is a good idea. If you are doing a 5-mile run on the treadmill however then this won’t be helping you very much. When you go to sleep, your body temperature and heart rate will drop. The problem is that exercise raises these two bodily functions and it will also stimulate your entire nervous system too. This makes it very difficult for your mind and your body to switch off. If you want to stop this from impacting your sleeping routine then it helps to do your workout in the morning so that you can give yourself more time to unwind.
Drinking Before Bed
A single glass of wine can be a good idea as it relaxes your mind and your body, giving you a prelude to sleep. If you indulge too much however then you may find that you impair your sleep. Although alcohol can relax you, it also interferes with the sleep cycle. This is especially the case with the REM stage or the part where you dream. If you wake up needing the bathroom then this is a hit to your sleep quality as well.
Room Temperature
A lot of sleep experts recommend that you keep your thermostat at around 20 degrees Celsius at night. A lot of people, in an attempt to cut down on energy costs, turn their thermostats right down during the winter. This leads to a freezing cold bedroom, and if this is the case you may find that you end up impacting your sleep. As mentioned above, your body temperature will drop at night and this will make you feel even colder than the room actually is. It’s also possible that your mattress is uncomfortable. If this is true then you should note that there are so many affordable mattresses available for you to buy online.
Stress
Stress can easily impact your sleep at night. Sometimes it’s very easy for you to get distracted in life and when you get into bed, this is usually when all of your concerns and worries come to ahead. This is the last thing that you need, but there are ways that you can combat this. For example, you could write down your concerns before bedtime or you could even make a list of all the things that you are grateful for. Little things like this can easily help you to stay on top of everything and it can also help you to process whatever lies ahead.
Of course, there are so many things that you can do to try and help yourself to sleep better at night. If you follow the above tips then you’ll soon find that you feel more energized in the mornings and that you are also able to relax much more as a result too.
