A few days ago I wrote about how my 3 1/2 year old just started riding his big-boy bike with out ever using training wheels, and how fast he’s getting bumped and bruised.
It got me thinking about how I really need to get my act together here and get myself organized and ready for injuries.
I would describe my medicine pantry (aka top-shelf-of-the-linen-closet) as “non-organized chaos.” I’ve got everything I need up there – but…. Organized, it is not.
So when catastrophe strikes, I go to the cabinet and find what I’m looking for. But usually I have to rummage around for a few minutes to find the things I need.
And even then – I forget to grab something most of the time.
Often times don’t even *Think* about applying any ointments until I get the wound half bandaged. And even then, finding the ointment is impossible. We often-times would just finish bandaging and tell ourselves, ‘We’ll find it later…’ only to then forget.
What does this have to do with MRSA?
I’ve been pondering this MRSA stuff, and realizing that using SAFESKIN* Kids Antibacterial Gel when caring for a wound when it happens can help protect my children from dangerous staph infections like MRSA. It just got me thinking about *how* I can get myself to remember to USE the cream each and every time I need to use a bandage for my boys.
So – recently, with the amount of times that we’ve needed some antibacterial ointment, like SAFESKIN Kids Antibacterial Gel, I’ve been storing the gel – INSIDE – the band-aid box.
I mean – they kind of go hand-in-hand. Band-aids and Antibacterial Gel.
Also not too far away is my SAFESKIN Kids Wraps – because my 1 1/2 year old, Ethan *hates* band-aids – so we have to wrap them up.
SAFESKIN* Kids Antibacterial Gel is a must-have for any mom’s first aid kit. Unlike topical antibiotic ointments, SAFESKIN* Kids Antibacterial Gel provides a barrier to MRSA, an infection that spreads via skin-to-skin contact when playing sports like wrestling, football, baseball or rugby, or from hard surfaces in gyms and locker rooms.

SAFESKIN* Kids Antibacterial Gel is available at select Walgreens locations with a suggested retail price of $4.95

I learned to ride on gravel. I have no idea how I didn’t get more infections.
great info on the site
I would love to have this product at home. Back a few years ago my older children both go Staph infection which was MRSA positive. It was horrible and scary. All summer both of them were fine, within the first week or school starting back my son had Staph with MRSA again. I am worried about my youngest son who is 2 yrs old getting something like this from his brother or sister as they are in school. I am scared of germs LOL.
I’m definitely going to look for Safeskin. Our 9 year old grandson lives with us and he gets plenty of scrapes and cuts!
Just bught a first aid kit to keep inthe car and take to ball games
Great idea putting the gel in the band-aid box!

Looks like a great product. I’ll have to check it out next time I’m at WAGs.
With my 3 year old getting more scrapes etc, my husband brought home a huge wall mountable first aid kit from work. I have been keeping it stocked, but not with safe skin. It sounds like exactly what my little one needs. Now just to actually get my dh to mount the first aid kit and I will be good to go.
I am a very aware of how fast MRSA happens. My grandson had it. Parents you can never be too careful, these days.
I would like to try the Safeskin Gel. It looks like excellent protection against bacteria.
I don’t have any children yet, but I often watch my 8 year old adopted sister so this would be great to have around!
I currently use neosporin on cuts and scrapes but would like to try using safeskin, it sounds like a wonderful product.

This is such a cool product but I wish it existed when I was younger 🙂

vmkids3 at msn dot com
i have seen what MRSA can do up close and personal and never want anyone to go through that…thanks for reminding me to check the first aid kit ..again and make sure everything is stocked and up to date and to check out SafeSkin!
This would be great for my boys!
I’ve just started hearing about MRSA lately. It seems like some scary stuff and makes me rethink my strategy about only using bandaids for injuries.
It just dawned on me. When I was young I don’t recall any antibacterial ointments. I remember burning and stinging to disinfect my scrapes. Ahhh, what improvements.
I use to use a similar product like this and I remember it burned.
thank you i love this stuff
Thanks for the contest.
Always better safe than sorry.
Safeskin looks like a product worth trying. I’m impressed.
This is the first time I have heard of Safeskin, but it looks like a great product.
Thank you for the chance to win the $100 gc . It would go to good use 😀
One of the grandkids is always scaping their knees this would help so much
I had not heard of Safeskin until now. This would be good to have in the first aid kit.
Sounds like a great product…will have to pick some up!
I have never tried Safeskin I have always just used Neosporin so I would love to try safeskin
My boys are always getting scrapes and cuts. I will definitely try this.
There are some great ideas in this to use in a first aid kit.
MRSA is scary stuff, and it’s great to see that there’s more awareness of it these days as well as products to prevent infection.
As much as my daughter cuts herself, she could really use SafeSkin antibacterial gel.
Safeskin seems like a much better choice to keep cuts clean and I like that it lasts up to 48 hours.
I didn’t know about MRSA until this campaign, scary stuff, very good information!
I never really thought about the seriousness that a minor scrape could potentially turn life threatening, I also should probably get my act together considering my kids are walking accidents! Thanks for the info!
Great post – MRSA is nothing to fool with, glad your’e making Moms more aware!!! (Holly) Thanks for the chance…
I think SafeSkin is a great product. I knew about MRSA but never really gave it much thought until now. I will be getting some of this in the future.
Wraps like these are a great bandage for both kids and adults. They are very easy to use.
chrisdeglen(at)gmail(dot)com

This wrap would be good to keep on hand “just in case”!
cjnedrow at gmail dot com
I’ve never heard of this product until now. Been using neosporen.
I think this is a great idea–really helps with peace of mind
I need to review and upgrade our first aid kit.
Such a good idea to keep it inside the box… otherwise I’d forget. 🙂
Facebook Name: Leslie Galloway (www.facebook.com/GallowayLeslie)
MRSA is so scary especially since it has been on the news so much lately. My parents had this huge bright yellow Tackle box that is full of first aid stuff and this was so nice when a I was in College and we stayed the night at my parents house (so I could clean since my mom was in the hospital) that night my friend took a bath and managed to cut her leg shaving from her knee almost to her groin. She didn’t want to come out of the bathroom . She said she needed a bandage She said I think I need a hundred. I made her open the door and thank goodness I am not squimish She refused to go to the hosptital so I pulled out and used most of the box. (I use to be a Nurse) I butterflied, and cross taped the wound. then dressed the wound. I think it is so important to have a first aid kit that I keep one in my purse and in the trunk of my car
I keep my gel in the band-aid box, too! So convenient.
I usually use Neosporin but I am going to be trying out the Safeskin Gel.
These look like a great product!
With 3 actives kids, I really see this coming in handy.
I never knew anything about MSRA until my granddaughter had it.
I learned the hard way of trying to stay stocked on first aid supplies, my son was riding his bike and crashed pretty good going down a hill and got road rash
This sounds like something we could use around here with all the scrapes and cuts my kids get.
This stuff sounds Great. With so many germies out there, its nice that you can help protect even better than with the regular bandaid ointment combo.
Awesome that its latex free too.
skin knees are bandaids…signs of summer
It is easy to become a little complacent about minor scrapes since they are so common and usually heal quickly and well, but they do have to be monitored.
safeskin sounds really great I never really thought about mrsa but with all the things i see on the news i guess its time to start worrying. it is better to be safe than sorry
MRSA is bad. Ask the Cleveland Browns and the St. Louis Rams. Wallgreens Gift Certificates are great. Thanks.
I agree this is definitely something to think about. My son is always coming up with new ways to hurt himself.
wow scary how bacteria are getting stronger, I remember being a kids and getting scratched up and I just left it as is or used band aid sans antibacterial. Never got an infection, but these days I think it’s a good ides to take a little precaution when it comes to cuts and scraps
My medicine cabinet is organized…but I don’t have everything I need!
This would be great to keep for small accidents.
Great information about MRSA – Thanks, I will look for Safeskin to use in the future!
I work in the healthcare industry. Safeskin is a VERY effective way to ward off infection and so helpful in keeping kids safe. We have seen patients with MRSA and its a very scary infection…
Our first aid kit is lacking at the moment, need to update it
MRSA is no joke…this looks like a great product
I usually use band aids and Neosporin on cuts and scrapes, but they end up falling off. Safe Skin seems so much more effective. Thanks for the review and giveaway.
We keep a fully stocked first aid kit in each vehicle
wow lots of boo boos.. thanks for the information about mrsa! We keep first aid kits in the car since we go hiking and to the park alot.
Thanks for the giveaway and the important info
We get lots of cuts and scrapes, so this is a necessity!

Ian is forever being bashed up – this would come in handy.
MRSA really scares me. I always take precautions to try to prevent it. No one in the family has had it yet.
I have never tried safeskin.
Thanks for the giveaway… MRSA is certainly a concern in communal settings i.e. school, locker rooms, etc.
We’ve had so many cases locally! It’s pretty scary!
I’ve never heard of safeskin! Glad to see a product like that
I’ve never tried SafeSkin, but I’m always looking for better and safer products to use.
The Safeskin Antibacterial Gel sounds like it will do a better job than the Neosporin I currently use, and I really like the Safeskin wraps too.
I have always been a Neosporin mom, but I would love to give this a try
My kids could definitely use this
annabella @ centurytel dot net
SafeSkin sounds awesome! Better than Neosporin and a bandaid!
Scrapes, falls, cuts and bruises are all part of being active and playing for children. MRSA raises the stakes in good owie care. Being a parent isn’t for sissys
Love this! My son was in the hospital because of MRSA right before he turned one so now I am hyper aware of it
