When my husband and I were first married 12 years ago we wanted everything in our new home to be JUST right. But because we both were students it didn’t quite work as we would have hoped. We slowly bought a few main pieces over the years, but when kids came along all of our furniture needs revolved around them and not around our home design. So when I had the opportunity to review a piece of furniture from Sauder – I didn’t even know where to start! What’s our biggest necessity?
My husband and I searched through the Sauder website with the idea that we needed something that could be versatile in case if we want to move things around. There are several pieces that we know that we have been keeping our eyes open for: A TV stand, a buffet for the dining room, a kitchen cart for the corner of our kitchen, a front entry bench and coat hanger, office desk for me, end tables, dressers, and more…our list is slightly depressing. But looking through the Sauder site is a breeze. They have things ordered by product type, by space, by collection, and they even have a style lab with great ideas for your style of home. Ultimately we decided on this piece: the Entertainment Credenza from the Edge Water Collection. At first we thought it was brown – because in the photo it looks a little more brownish – but it is black. So when I went to order I almost changed my mind because of it being black. Ultimately we decided that we really liked the style and would be able to work with that. I was amazed at the UPS man who delivered this beast to my front door. The package weighed 138 pounds! It started raining and I could barely handle getting it in the door – I had both of my kids pushing one end while I pulled the other side. It was packaged very well though – all corners were covered and nothing had the possibility of being dented. My husband was INSTANTLY impressed with the weight and quality of the wood. And I quote, “It’s a high-quality wood. Compared to the soft wood of a lot of the other furniture we’ve purchased in the past that would maybe strip easily if tightened too much – this wood is heavy and I’m not worried about the fasteners being screwed in too tight.” He thought the directions were perfectly written – even with options for us to go online and watch a video (which we didn’t need to do!) And, “The hardware is large and the perfect size for the weight of the wood. Often times you’ll see the hardware for furniture pieces are too small to handle the load that is being placed on them.”
He loves that there are supports underneath to hold more weight and not worrying about the middle caving in eventually. He also loves the way that the drawer gliders are sturdy and even adjustable. He was fascinated at the high-quality – because apparently all the things we’ve purchased in the past have not been this great. He’s already looking online at their site to find our next great piece of furniture! We are not fully positive of the location of this piece – because it is so versatile. But for now we’ve decided to place it in the dining room. We’ve put our speaker system and all of our chargers on it (after the photo was taken) so it’s become a sort-of charging station/china hutch (as soon as the china comes out of the boxes!). I really love the way it looks here – but I may be switching it up just a bit. We shall see!
What was the last large piece of furniture you purchased?
