I’m a little over halfway through my 21 days of the 21 Day Fix Extreme and I’m impressed. This workout program is no joke – it’s extreme. With a different muscle group focus each day, I’m hitting every muscle possible as hard as possible. It’s super hard, but totally good for me!
21 Day Fix Extreme: The exercises
There are a lot of exercises that I only make it partially through. There are exercises I laugh at when she first shows how to do them, and then almost fall on my face attempting (and eventually accomplishing). By the end of the 30 minute session, we are too exhausted to even turn off the DVD player, so we sit through the BeachBody advertising that follows. We both modify a lot of the exercises (no weights, smaller jumps, etc), Peter modifies a lot due to an injured knee and has to sit some out (squats kill his knee).
21 Day Fix Extreme: Is it mom friendly?
If you have a 40 minute no-kid period in your day (think morning, nap time or evening), sure. We tried to work out with Micah (he’s 2) and he likes to lie under me, climb on top of me, be my weights, and hang on my leg. NOT happening. I convinced him to play catch while I exercised for a while, but then he gets mad when I have to stop for a different exercise. So I’ve switched to working out after he goes to bed. This also means I have the rest of my awake and then sleep time for my jello-legs and noodle-arms to recover before chasing kids again the next day.
21 Day Fix Extreme: The participants
The only thing I actually don’t like about the 21 Day Fix Extreme is that all the participants are SO in shape. They are ripped and muscular; they do working out for a living. For a mom who doesn’t work in fitness and enjoys brownies, it’s unrealistic, intimidating and almost feels too “American ideal” fit rather than real, normal-person, healthy fit. I do like that they are exhausted and sweating too, it makes me feel less pathetic. As long as I focus on my personal goals and not on trying to look like them, I’m good.
21 Day Fix Extreme: Overall
Overall, so far so good. It’s exhausting, my muscles are sore and tired, but I can feel myself getting stronger and more flexible. It’s hard to eat healthy, but so worth it and the diet plan is essentially just healthy foods in healthy portions, no craziness there. We’ve ignored the bits about Shakeology, it’s expensive and not something we want to make part of our daily lives, eating healthy and taking our vitamins covers all the bases.

Good for you! I have similar memories of Insanity but now can’t do high impact due to joint damage from Lyme disease. I’ve just been walking and hiking to try to take off the baby weight. Keep up the good work!

Sounds like a good fit for you! I’m almost done nursing my youngest and it’s time to start thinking about getting back in shape. I like that this program works all the different muscle groups. I’ll have to check it out!

I think that is what annoys me about any exercise program. They have physically fit people and not enough people who are still working on their goals. I get discouraged when I see these kind of videos or exercise programs.
