Spring is officially here, and that means spending time outdoors, maybe doing a little ‘spring cleaning,’ and enjoying the gift of new life, flowers, and color all around!
It can be exciting to experience spring after being cooped up all winter. But, it’s still important to keep your family safe during this season of life.
Whether you’re planning a vacation for the whole family or you’re staying home to enjoy the beautiful weather, I’ve got a few tips you can use to keep everyone safe and happy all season long!
1. Sprucing Up Your Yard Safely
Spring is a great time to clean up your yard, get in a little landscaping, and put together a beautiful garden. It’s also a great excuse to teach your children about the importance of farming and growing food! About 1 in 3 households in the U.S. grow their own vegetables thanks to the many benefits, and your kids will love watching whatever they plant grow and flourish!
But, make sure you always play it safe around the garden and when taking care of your lawn. Many fertilizers and other chemicals used on plants and lawns can be extremely harmful if ingested or touched. Keep everything stored away safely in the garage when it’s not in use, in a place your children can’t reach.
2. Practice Road Trip Safety
Spring is the perfect time to hit the road with your family, even if it’s just for a weekend getaway! But, be aware that many more people will be on the roads, so it’s important to practice defensive driving and avoid distractions.
There are thousands of vehicle accidents each year. Depending on the severity, you may have to file an insurance claim, work with the police, or get top-notch legal assistance from skilled personal injury lawyers. Your best bet is to practice safe driving habits with the family in the car and be aware of other drivers on the road.
3. A Jumping Good Time
One of the most popular spring pastimes for kids is jumping around on a trampoline. Whether you’ve got one in the yard or your kids are begging to go to the neighbors’ house to try theirs, there are a few ground rules to keep in mind for everyone’s safety, including:
- They should always be supervised by an adult
- No flips in the air
- Only one jumper at a time
- There should be protective padding around the edge of the trampoline
Trampolines can be fun and they are a great physical activity for kids (and adults!), but keeping these safety precautions in place can help to prevent accidents and injuries from occurring.
Spring can be a time of relaxation after a hectic and stressful winter. There are so many things to do and experience, so don’t be afraid to get out there with your family and soak up everything the season has to offer. Just make sure you’re keeping these safety tips in mind so everyone remains injury-free all season, and well into the summer!
