There’s nothing like a family vacation, is there? Loading everyone up into the car, hitting the open road, and heading for an unfamiliar destination, where you know you can all relax together, share some laughs, and forge some good memories that will stand the test of time.
There are many different places where you could have your family vacation. You might opt to disappear into the heart of Yellowstone National Park for a camping and hiking excursion that takes you away from the modern world, and back to the bosom of nature.
Or, you could simply go on a road trip across the country, and see what new sights and experiences each individual location has in store.
Here are a few things that you can do if your family vacation takes you to Dallas, Texas.
Enjoy.
Go eat a good steak
Look, everyone knows that Texas is cowboy country, right? And when you think about the kind of food the cowboys would have eaten, you’re properly not imagining a nice kale smoothie, or an assortment of mixed berries, are you?
The top steakhouses in Dallas are also widely regarded as being some of the top steakhouses in the entire USA, and some of them trace their history back a good long while.
The Y.O. Ranch Steakhouse, for example, traces its origins back over 125 years – which is also how long some of its patented cooking techniques harken back to.
A vacation in Dallas is, pretty much, a vacation to cowboy country. So, make like a cowboy and go eat a good steak.
Join the JFK Assassination and Museum Tour for an active history lesson
On 22 November, 1963, the much beloved US President John Fitzgerald Kennedy was gunned down while riding in a motorcade through Dallas.
The shooter, Lee Harvey Oswald, fired from a nearby School Book Depository, and the rest, as they say, is history.
If you’re visiting Dallas with your family, and are interested in exploring a bit of the nation’s 20th-century history, joining in on the JFK Assassination and Museum Tour for an active history lesson might be just what the doctor ordered. And that book depository? Well, it’s open to the public. You can visit and learn more.
“Decompress” for a while in White Rock Lake Park
City life can be pretty stressful, especially when that city is as large as Dallas. Perhaps, on your family vacation, you want to take in some of the urban sites and attractions, but also want a bit of time away from it all.
Well, if that’s the case, be sure to stop by White Rock Lake Park to “decompress” for a while.
White Rock Lake Park is big, at 1,015 acres. Among the many attractions of the park are areas of wetlands, kayaking and boating opportunities, running and cycling routes, a museum, and more.
So, whether you want to take a stroll by the lake, or have a picnic on the grass, keep this park in mind.
