I’ve been slacking off on the babyland posts!
My 1 Year Old
Micah has been growing like a weed. He walks like a champion! Off course he still hits the ground quite often, but he gets right back up and keeps going. He’s 13 months old now and once in a while we think he actually says words. He seems to say “ball” or “kitty”, sometimes other things. He had his one-year well-child check where he got 4 shots, poor baby. He handled it really well though. We also found out his hemoglobin (iron level, the stuff that carries oxygen through our bodies) is just a smidge low, not worrisome. And he is in the 70th percentile for height and 40th percentile for weight. Yay for a healthy baby! The doctor was a little worried he’s not really talking yet, but I’m not. All babies are different, he babbles plenty, he will start talking in his own time.
My New Year’s Goal for Baby
We need to break him of his pacifier. We only use it for naptime and bad fall-down-go-boom cries, but if he sees it, he wants it and has to be quickly distracted. He goes to sleep like a pro for the most part, but only if he has a pacifier. So it’s going to be rough to take it away. Stay tuned for how it goes, and let me know if you have any tips! I’m not sure if we’ll cut him off right away or let it be a few more months, but it’ll be this year for sure!
Babyland to Minnesota!
Most people head warmer in the winter, not us. We traveled to Minnesota for a week to visit family for a belated Christmas! It was really fun and really stressful but definitely a worth while trip. But it was COLD! We’re talking, they cancelled school state-wide due to the cold. BRRRR. There was one day warm enough that we bundled Micah up and took him outside. He LOVED being pulled around on his sled, giggled and giggled, but definitely did NOT like the snow on any bare skin.
Flying with a Walking Baby
Definitely gets more interesting with him mobile. Plus, not breastfeeding anymore means I couldn’t nurse him to sleep on the plane. He did sleep some each way, and one flight we were lucky enough to have an empty seat in our row so Micah had room to move. Otherwise, he just moved between our laps and entertained the third person in our row. He had tons of fun wandering the airport and saying hi to other little kids during the waiting times though!
Family Time
We loved being with family again. Micah definitely loved seeing his grandparents and aunties and uncles. He got spoiled rotten, and we got spoiled rotten by being able to relax while someone else chased him around the house. It was truly great to see everybody, catch up on life, and make new memories. If you have long distance family, how do you keep in touch?

For the pacifiers…we just threw them away. Michael turned one and we just tossed them. It was a rough few days but then he forgot about them and we were done 🙂 Facetime and Skype are great for the Grandparents out of state 🙂 They get to see the grandbaby and vise versa!

We do a weekly Skype call with my parents, who live 1000 miles away from us – it’s definitely helped my kids to know their grandparents, my son never has any of the shyness around them that my sisters and I felt when we visited our grandparents (who also lived 1000 miles away, but in the days before Skype!)

Aw he is just too cute. 1 out of 4 of my kids were attached to the binky and one day I just took it away, she fussed a bit but I never had to give it back to her. Now my grandson is a thumb sucker so that’s one I don’t know how to deal with.

omg dont worry about the pacifier, my 2 year old still has hers! i cant get her off of it!

Nothing wrong with using a pacifier when they are going to sleep they will eventually not need it.
