We are excited for Christmas! December just doesn’t feel like December in Arizona though. No snow, no negative temperatures, no slippery roads. Don’t get me wrong, I love the 60s and 70s sunny desert beauty, it just makes it seem like Christmas in April instead of December. So, we decorated to make it feel more correct!
Christmas Tree Decorating with Babies
Micah gets into everything, so while a real tree means needles all over underneath it, a real tree with a toddler means needles all over the house. And the cats. And the yard. And in our clothes. So, we went fake. Then, Micah helped us decorate! We have a bunch of little stuffed animal decorations that we let him hang on (or just shove into) the tree. He enjoyed helping but got bored eventually. We kept any decorations that are breakable or precious above where he can reach to keep them safe.
The tree is also secured to the wall so it the cats or Micah get excited, the whole thing won’t come toppling down. Finally, we keep the tree plugged in all day long (while we are home) because Micah is totally mesmerized by it and will plug it in if we haven’t already.
Christmas Decorating with Babies
We kept it simple and out of reach. Basically the only Christmas item Micah can reach is the tree. Everything else is above his little, grabby, sticky, spread-it-all-over-the-house hands. Since he has free run of the yard (it’s fenced), we haven’t put out any lights because he would definitely plug, unplug and rearrange them. We did hang snowflake ornaments from the front misting system so we could see sparkly snowflakes somewhere!
One Christmas decoration we have that Micah absolutely adores: my Christmas village. It’s up high on a big Ikea shelf so he can’t reach it, but he loves to have us hold him up to get a closer look at it. Again, it has to be plugged in all the time we are home or he will go for the outlet himself. What’s really cool is that staring at and playing with it has helped him learn new words like skating, dancing, snowman, and so much more. Sometimes it’s time consuming holding him up to look at it, but his adoration of it is worth it!

My grandsons enjoyed decorating this year! They were finally old enough to hang some of the ornaments on their own.

Great to get the kids involved in the holiday decorating. My kids have so much fun with it. Love your little town scenery.

We have so much fun decorating the tree with my little niece and nephew. They come over and love all the decorations and lights on the tree! It is so cute to see when the little ones get all excited helping to decorate the tree!

My kids helped decorate ours but we have a kitten that is worse than any of my kids ever were with the tree. She even fell asleep at the top of it once. I think I end up with more ornaments on the floor than the tree. I give up

thankfully my LO never messes with our tree or decorations. We def make sure not to put breakable ornaments near the bottom though. I think in the past our cat has given us more issues with it than our LO lol
