What Do Kids Want for Christmas?
It can be hard to figure out what gifts to buy for the people on your list. Even for kids! I keep thinking kids like everything and anything will do, but then I walk around and see tons of toys in the aisles and I no longer know what to get. There are so many choices! So Target partnered with a couple different YouTube toy experts to create a selection of YouTube videos featuring certain awesome gifts, reviewed and played with by real kids, to help you figure out what to get the children in your life!
How to Find the Best Gifts
Check it out Before you Buy It
When shopping, you can’t always tell what a toy will do out of the box. Does it walk, run, jump, or just inch along at a snail’s pace? It’s a great idea to check out reviews online! I love the videos on the Target site because you get to see the toys in action with real kids. It’s fantastic to see how fast they go, how easy they are to operate, and even the quality of the product.
Ask the Internet!
If you don’t know what to get a person, the internet is a great tool to use! But there are so many options! I love the Target videos: they list below them what toys are in them, so I can watch toys I want to see and ignore videos I don’t. The toys they feature are hot items from big brands, like TMNT, Frozen and Paw Patrol. Plus I can read through all the titles of the videos to get ideas of new toys instead of straining my not-so-creative brain. The Target site also is organized in an awesome way: I can search gift ideas by age or by category so I don’t have to shuffle through tons of toys that don’t apply to find ideas that do!
Double Check
My fear is buying a gift the person already has, or receives from someone else! Once you’ve hunted the internet, send a couple ideas to that parent or loved one and see what they think. I sent my sister-in-law a couple ideas for my niece and nephew so she could give my her opinion (and make sure they don’t already have it!), which led to a resounding YES! on a couple ideas and my list is covered. Or find something unique, like the Bunchems or Wubble Bubble Ball that they aren’t likely to already own.
Target also has a fantastic app for kid’s to create their own wish list! Your kids can build up a list of what they want from the Target site for you to refer to for ideas.
Be a Blessing
The original idea I like behind gift-giving is to be a blessing to others. To me, this means thinking about what the other person might need or deeply appreciate. Like a back massage or a date night. Or a date night with daddy with their new Nerf guns and Rebelle bow! Maybe the child on your list really needs a new warm Paw Patrol blanket (fun and cozy!) or a selection of healthy but delicious snacks. If you don’t feel like the child (or adult!) on your list has any big needs or blessing opportunities then…
Have Fun!
Whether it’s kids or adults, we all want to smile and enjoy life. Where I might consider a movie night to be awesome, most kids revolve around active entertainment, so have fun! If you are drawn to the bright colorful toy that you want to play with in the aisle, chances are they will too so that’s probably a great choice! There are some fun YouTube videos on the Target site as well to get you in the fun shopping mood! My favorite are from the Holderness family, enjoy!
Be Age Appropriate
If a toy says it’s for ages 8+, it’s probably not a good choice for your 3 year old niece. She might enjoy it after mom and dad spend time setting it up and teaching her how to use it, but eventually it will come apart or be too confusing and she will either move on or have a melt down because it’s not fun any more. Toys directed at his age group definitely provide longer-lasting entertainment. Look on the box, it’s normally listed in one of the corners. Better yet, go back to the awesome Target videos to see a toy in action and pay attention to what age person is operating it and how it’s operated to see if it’s the right fit.

I got all my stocking stuffer things at Target from their $1 rows. The girls had a lot of different toys and were so excited!
