Little Tikes My First Flyer is a great gift for the young pilot in your family! My preschooler is constantly wanting to “help” daddy with any of his remote controlled things, and now he has his own! The My First Flyer helicopter is easy to control, durable, and fun!
My First Flyer Setup
After a bit of effort to get it out of the box, the My First Flyer needs 6 AA batteries in the remote, then attach the helicopter to the remote, set both switches to the lightning symbol, and let it charge. Wonderfully, it only takes 20-30 minutes to charge, even from totally dead, so playtime is not far away. Then disconnect and play!
My First Flyer Play
The remote is the perfect size for little hands! It has 4 buttons: Take Off, Land, Emergency Stop, and Right Turn. There isn’t a left turn, so kids don’t need to know one side to the other. Just keep turning left until it points the right direction.
The helicopter takes off fairly smoothly, moves less than a foot forward in the process. Then it slowly moves forward in whatever direction it’s facing. It flies 3-4 feet in the air, wavering depending on what it flies over.
The Land button makes the helicopter land quite slowly. The emergency stop button drops it to the ground.
The remote makes noises for all the actions, including helicopter sounds, landing and crashing. The remote does have to be pointing toward the helicopter and seems to have about a 15-foot range.
My First Flyer Pros
I love that we can charge this off of the remote! No plugs, just connect the two for a short time, then fly again! The charge lasts about 15 minutes, which is plenty for a preschooler’s attention span.
The helicopter is durable. It’s hit the floor many times without any damage. The blades feel flimsy but hold up well. The blade guards protect them a bit, but it does still sting if it hits skin.
The whole thing is easy enough for a preschooler to operate while being complex enough to be fun for years to come!
My First Flyer Cons
The noises are a bit louder than I like. My son likes them, they get a bit annoying for me. It would be nice if the noises were optional.
I really can’t think of any others. It’s not incredibly accurate, but it’s a kid’s toy, not a precision drone. My son loves it, my daughter loves watching him, and it’s a great learning experience for him!
I received a My First Flyer for review, opinions are 100% my own.
