This does not have to diminish so much as they get older either. You need to find the time to connect and develop new communication techniques. Raising a child is a challenge, and it is the best challenge and one when started will be there with you for the rest of your life. Here are simple ways to get that close connection with your child:
Play games
Think about what your child likes, perhaps it’s a game of chase or maybe they like hide and seek. Playing is a great and fun bonding technique. Even as the child ages, maybe you could get involved with the games they play on the computer every now and again. It is up to you to show some interest in it and draw conversion out of them. You have to understand that this is something they enjoy, and it does not have to be separate from you. They will divulge secrets about themselves by telling you about the characters they like and why. You will be able to connect with them this way.
Listen to music together
When they are little, you can bond with them by playing nursery rhymes. Kids love to have a go on toy drums too, and toys do have an effect on development, so allowing them to play with some creative ones may be a great idea. In addition, As they get older, maybe music could be a great way to connect. Keep an eye on the music they like and try and understand it. You may be able to take them to a show. If they show any musical ability, or even if they don’t, music lessons are great. It helps with their education, and it may be a great hobby going forward.
Indulge them a little bit
When it is coming up to Christmas, why not get these free elf on the shelf printables and play a little bit. Your child is only young once, and you don’t want to miss it. So when you are playing elf on the shelf, give them one of these to sign.
Ten minutes of one to one
This may be best done at night as they go to sleep, but spend ten minutes talking to them. Try and discover if there is anything in their lived, from school or whatever that needs to be discussed. Bedtime is a good option as they will be tired. If your child is a little close-lipped then catching them while they’re sleepy may make them more open to talking. Just allow them to know you have their back and they can tell you anything without you flying off the handle. And if they do tell you something, you have to keep your promise, no matter what. Fly off the handle when they can’t see if you have to.
