They say that experiences are far better than material possessions, and to an extent, this is true. Although it’s nice to collect sentimental gifts; a getaway with your family is something you can cherish forever.
However, affording a holiday to a faraway destination can sometimes feel like a distant dream. Especially if there are budget-friendly beach resorts and activity holidays nearby that you slip into going to out of convenience each and every year. Although, it’s not unnatural to feel the need of wanting to travel a bit further than usual. And so if you’re wondering how you can budget for your next big holiday away, you can! For some tips on where to begin to plan ahead for your best family holiday yet, here are a few simple steps to follow.
Choose Your destination
Where are you thinking of traveling to first? Without taking this step, your plan to save for a family holiday will be pretty directionless. Is it Bali, Italy, or Australia you’ve always dreamed of going to? Or perhaps you want to see the northern lights in Iceland or the mysterious stone henge in the UK. You can make this step fun by getting the family involved. You could even begin to make a bucket list of destinations you want to visit over the years.
Budget Estimate
With your destination in mind, you need to get an idea of how much the accommodation and travel will cost. You can do this by scouting accommodation sites such as rumah online if you’re thinking of heading to Indonesia. Or alternatively, take a look at package holidays from websites such as travelsupermarket.com to Aruba or Fuji. Feel free to make adjustments on your dates to see if you can find cheaper alternatives.
The fact that Iceland is expensive can motivate you to save even more for this dream destination. To be fair, there are strategic ways to get your money’s worth and have fun while in Iceland. One of which is to book a camper for an active family holiday. You’ll have both accommodation and transportation in one reservation, and more importantly, have the chance of a lifetime of touring Iceland comfortably in a cozy camper.
If the flights to your destination take a significant amount of time, you may also want to consider staying in your destination for a little while longer. This is so you all have the chance to get over your jet lag, to get comfortable in your accommodation and to amount the energy you need to enjoy your time away. From all-inclusive hotels to self-catered rented apartments which are usually more functional for a family with children, there are options to suit all lifestyles and budgets.

Save Monthly
To make your family dream holiday come true, it’s time to set the money aside to save for your holiday. But first, you need to see if you have room in your monthly income to dedicate some funds solely to your vacation.
If the chances of saving aside are slim, consider if there are cutbacks you could make in your outgoings to enable you to save for your holiday fund. Such as reducing your food shopping budget, or switching up your energy/broadband provider to a cheaper company. If bringing your monthly outgoings done is proving tricky, why not think about whether you or your partner might consider taking on a bit of extra work. Such as blogging, or working as an uber driver in the evenings and on the weekend. This will give your income a boost and pay for your holiday in no time.
Trips abroad, particularly long-distance, are generally expensive, and so don’t feel disheartened if it takes you a while to save for a family holiday away. Many families book their holiday a year in advance of going to make sure they can pay it off before they jet abroad.
Installments
If putting aside the cash each month isn’t feasible without risking dipping into your holiday fund. You may want to look at holiday options where you can pay monthly installments. This can also be quite motivating, as you see your holiday balance gradually being chipped away. As an alternative to payments, some apartment rental companies and holiday websites allow you to put down a deposit on your holiday and pay the rest of the holiday before you jet off abroad.
If you’re dreaming of a holiday away with your family, the best thing to do is plan ahead. It’s not about whether or not you’ll ever get to go abroad to your dream destination. With careful planning and saving, it’s more so about when you will be able to go. Whether it takes a year, or a few years to afford, seeing different places in the world is undeniably one of the best experiences you can provide for your family.
