There aren’t very many preschooler or elementary friendly gaming systems out there. Especially learning-based ones that encourage critical thinking, math and reading skills, physical science and life skills. It seems more and more that kids will sit and play meaningless games for hours, and while games can be effective in teaching coordination and thinking skills, there is so much more possible! LeapFrog gets that and they created LeapTV which, as far as learning possibilities, is unparalleled by anything I’ve ever seen in the way of kid’s video game systems.
LeapTV is Fun
LeapTV is a gaming system at it’s core, which means it’s fun. It’s entertaining, colorful, interactive, personalized and FUN! There are lots of games along many different themes, including some with popular characters like those from Frozen, Sofia the First, Bubble Guppies and so many more. Your kids will recognize characters and ideas from shows and be able to grow and learn from that baseboard. And that’s the key: LEARN.
LeapTV Teaches
Each different LeapTV game teaches core ideas, from simple things like teaching colors, letters and numbers to more complicated things like physical science and math skills. It even teaches day-to-day things like recycling! I love that Micah is happily playing while learning such important core things! He’s not quite three, so some of the games are too complicated and even the whole system and gaming ability is a little out of his understanding, but I’m sure he’ll pick up on it soon! Until then he tends to sit on my lap or stand beside me and we play the games together.
LeapTV is Easy
Easy to set up, easy to navigate, easy to change games, easy to use the controller. There are multiple ways to play: the controller can be like a wand with the system sensing the light on the end, or it can be folded like a typical remote, or there are times you put the remote down and use your body to do things.
LeapTV Cons
LeapTV does have some downsides. The biggest one in my family is related to the way the sensor does its thing: if it’s too dark in the room, it can’t see the person for those times you set the remote down and control with your body. If there is too bright of a light within the camera view, it might have trouble sensing the light on the wand when it’s straight. There really needs to be a light behind the tv to illuminate the person without distracting the sensor, but generally people avoid light sources behind their tvs.
The other con is the lag. There are times that it runs slowly or freezes for a few seconds. It’s never ridiculous, just annoying. It’s slower than a fancy multi-hundred-dollar adult game system, but Micah definitely doesn’t mind. Every once in a while something happens that turning the system off and on fixes, such as once a game didn’t have any sound; I turned it off and on and it ran perfectly.
It’s also much more thorough and detailed about instructions, which is annoying to me but very good for Micah. This helps him in two ways: he knows how to play the game, and he learns to be patient while hearing instructions.
The system is limited in how far it grows with a child, most games are rated up to age 7 or 8 and there aren’t games that would be super entertaining for teenagers or pre-teens. For the price and younger kids, it’s awesome. By the time your 4 year old is old enough to want more mature games than an Xbox or other system would offer, there will be many generations of new systems. It makes more sense to me to spend $60 on a child-focused system now than spend $300 on a fancy system that will be far outdated by the time they are teenagers.
LeapTV Review
Overall, the LeapTV system is awesome. Games are typically $20 but can be caught on clearance as low as $5. The whole system is educational AND fun, which makes it fun for kids and great for parents. Plus it’s cheaper than ever at only $60 for the system. It will grow and evolve with Micah: as he is older and more capable, it will be more complex and he will get into levels that require more knowledge and ability. I’m excited to see Micah learn and grow along with his LeapTV and other LeapFrog toys and systems!
I received this awesome LeapTV from LeapFrog as a LeapFrog Mom to review for this post. Opinions are 100% my own as always.

Heya this is kind of of off topic but I was wanting to know if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding skills so I wanted to get guidance from someone with experience. Any help would be enormously appreciated!
