Expecting a baby feels like there is a lot of exciting things about to happen. Some exciting and some scary! It is a big moment. A new human that you have to take care of and help grow into a great human. But in between all of the big stuff, there are smaller things that you can take a lot of joy in. Choosing their pushchair or baby carrier, decided on names – middle names and nicknames. Wondering about the types of cloth nappies available, or what the best baby wipes or reuseable cloths are – and the different kinds of organic baby clothes.
One of the things that are great fun if you have the room is planning the nursey. After all, both you and your baby will spend a lot of time in there. So it makes sense that planning something you can both enjoy is a must. A great place to start is by spending some time on Pinterest. There are so many different styles of nursery that can fit in the smallest of spaces. From the wacky and wonderful to the serene and super zen, from minimalist to bold and vibrant.

Here are a couple of things that you might like to think about as you are designing your baby’s new nursery.
The Bed
There is no single baby bed that you should get. Instead, you should consider the short term and the long run. They recommend that the baby sleeps in the same room as the parents for the first 6 months minimum. There are a few options for that. A Moses basket is ideal until they can pull themselves up or reach the designated weight on the owner’s instructions. Co-sleeping cots are also a popular choice.
The bed in the nursery should be closer to a crib style. It is essential that the crib meets all safety standards and safe sleeping markers too. You should feel confident in the crib you choose. A light shade of wood or white work the best, because if you decide to redecorate at a later date – they work with anything. A great idea that will save money in the future is getting a crib that can turn into a toddler bed. This means that instead of needing to get a new bed when they are ready to swap, you simply need to take the sides off. For styling, whatever suits your personal taste is best because it will outlast any themes that way.
Storage
Babies have a lot of clothing. Even if you try to keep it minimal, there are nappy accidents, spit-up incidents – baths, bedtimes, dribble… and of course the doting friends and family. IT is a good idea to have your storage and baby changing unit combines. The top drawers are great to quickly grab diapers, wipes, and a spare outfit if you need to. Having everything in drawers will mean it is easier to keep it clean and tidy.
Drawer organizers will help you keep all of those little baby socks easy to access too.
You will need plenty of other storage too. Soft toys early on and other toys pile up pretty quickly. It is nice to have somewhere you can quickly and easily put them away. A popular option is a giant hamper with no lid or the on-trend lidless trunks. This will help when they are a little older and need to tidy up their own stuff.
There are a lot of different blankets, mattress sheets, and pillows that you are going to have too. It is nice to have a range of different designs and also for the future use of different togs and blankets.
There are some items that are going to need to remain out of reach of children, but handy enough for you. Lotions, talcs, baby paracetamol, diaper rash creams should all be safely tucked away.
Chair
It doesn’t matter if you choose to breastfeed or formula feed, you are going to need a comfortable chair to do it in. There has been many a parent who has fallen asleep after putting the baby back in the cot, on the nursery chair. It might be one of the most essential purchases next to the crib. When thinking about the style of chair, remember that you want something comfortable enough to sit on during the long nights. And if your budget can stretch it, a chair that is worth passing down to your children.
Other things worth taking into account are the right lumbar support, removable cushions, and would you like a rocking or gliding chair to help you get your little one off to sleep? Removable covers are a good idea too, for those little accidents that happen.

Decor & Theme
Not all themes will age well. So before you decide on a theme, consider if you will need to redecorate somewhere in the next few years. A popular decor option is greys, yellows, and whites. The color combination can lend itself to many different furniture styles, and if the walls are white, you can switch out the greys and yellows for other colors when they are old enough to ask.
Wood flooring is typically the easiest to clean and steam, but having a rug in the room will help stop the sound bouncing around. A wool twist rug is a popular choice and is pretty easy to spot clean. It is even more ideal if the rug is soft enough to be folded and machine washed.
Blinds or curtains is really a personal choice. Many people find that a blackout blind allows the baby to sleep well during the day and takes less maintenance and cleaning than curtains do.
Like most places in your home, the nursery should be somewhere you fall in love with, and when you are in there, it makes you happy. If you aren’t sure which direction to go, then you can buy a crib, check out Pinterest and go from there.
