Flor Floor
No, I didn’t misspell it, Flor Carpet Designs Squares provided me with the carpet squares to cover the nursery floor, and it looks amazing! It’s only been in a week and I’ve already gotten lots of compliments about how good it looks. Opinions here are 100% my own, not influenced by Flor’s free carpet squares. My opinion: they take some time to install, but can be done by anyone, even without carpet installation tools or training, and look fantastic.
Flor Squares
Flor carpet designs squares mix, match, and cut to make a rug, runner, or cover the whole floor! For the nursery, the old carpet was horrible, so covering the whole floor was the only option. The choir group from Boise Bible College helped tear out the old carpet and padding, then I just had to take out the tack strip, clean the cement floor, and paint the walls further down (the squares are way thinner than traditional carpeting).
That was all actually a lot of work, but I did it in one nap time. Then, the rest of the afternoon and evening was spent putting the squares in.
Flor Installation
I watched the Flor installation video before even ordering so I knew what I was doing. And it was actually pretty easy, just laying the carpet squares in place, then putting the dots under the corners when I was happy.
The hard part was cutting the edge squares to the right size. After I figured out that I could flip the square over and tuck it under the next to know exactly where to cut it with my exacto knife, it was a lot easier.
I had to make sure I had the fibers cut all the way through or risk getting little fuzzies though. So, I would cut hard through the back, then stand it up, bent at the cut, and finish cutting through all the fibers. By the end of the night, my hands and wrists were exhausted, but the job was done! (And looked great, btw). It would certainly would be a lot easier to just do a rug (no cutting to fit the edges!).
Flor Ordering
The Flor website makes designing and ordering squares super easy. With their Florbuilder Design Tool, I knew what the floor would look like before I ordered a single square. You can also request samples and view all the different options online. It also helped me know how many squares to order, just by putting in the size of the room. In the end, I have two extra squares and a few extra pieces.
Flor Review
Overall, I’ve gotten tons of compliments! It looks great. If you get close, you can see that I didn’t cut perfectly and the walls aren’t perfectly straight, so not all he corners line up perfectly. And the blue squares seem to have little gaps of fibers between the squares, but after some vacuuming, that should fix itself (hopefully).
Micah loves running around on it, his wheeled toys push better on it than regular carpet, and the bright colors really give it a happy feel. It’s too hard to sleep on, no carpet padding underneath, but fine for tummy time and sitting while playing. I’m excited to see how well it holds up and hold super high hopes!

I love that you can put in the size of the room and it tells you how many squares you will need….. no over-ordering, or having to re-order because you didn’t get enough
