I really wish I could report that my life with boys ages 3 and 5 (almost 4 and 6) means that we’re completely diaper-free. We are *so* close, but still have that final home-stretch to conquer. My youngest surprisingly potty-trained himself one day about a year ago. We had been trying for a while to get him to use the potty, and used Pull-Ups – but his strong head just ‘Got’ it. Then since the day he got his special Jake and the Neverland Pirates Underwear he didn’t have any accidents. It was great! That is, except for bed time!
There were several days where he was successful overnight without wetting the bed – but several nights that were not successful. We talked about it and decided that he would go back to using Pull-Ups so that we didn’t have to wash so many blankets and sheets. This was a little tough for him because he was so head-strong that he was only wearing underwear from now on; but was also sad that at nap time his blankets were still in the wash.
I used the Pull-Ups Big Kid Academy website for some tips to talk to him about staying dry at night – but it really got better when we recently purchased our newest box of Pull-Ups. They were Jake and the Neverland Pirates! He was So EXCITED! Now, he has matching underwear and Pull-Ups and loves putting his “Jakey Diaper” at night (his words – not mine!). I’m washing so many less sheets and blankets, and when he decides to not wear them for a night – I’m OK with it.

Potty training is hard but I think we are finally done. It is a great feeling. Now that he gets to the potty every time, we just need to get him to wipe, pull his own pants up, and wash his own hands. So maybe we are not done. At least we are done with accidents!
My grandsons are done with day time accidents but my youngest grandson still isn’t 100% night time trained.
What a great resource! After I found out I was having a boy, I thought about potty training, and thought how do I start potty training a boy!?? YIkes! I know it was premature to think about that, and it still is, but it crossed my mind. This would be a great resource to have when the time comes. My sister has 3 boys and she said they are harder to potty train than boys. We will see what happens!
Hey Ambyr! You’re going to be so happy he was potty trained. I made sure Josh was befroe Adam came and I am so happy I did! I do pull ups at night because he still occasionally pees at night. When we first started going out, I would just take him to the restroom so he knew that this is where we go when we’re not at home. Now when I take him out I don’t just take him at almost every stop, he just tells me. My only problem is he wants to take everything waist down off when he goes. We’re still working on that.
