Kids get sick all the time. Both of my kids currently have colds, and the weather is the nicest it’s been all year! Which means coughs keeping them up at night and runny noses all day. Plus they get teething pain, playing-outside-like-crazy-people owies, and tummy aches from who knows what. My older kiddo told me today “I feel icky, I need medicine please.”
Medicine can be a huge factor in helping your loved ones deal with pain and fever, and making those owies and sick days go so much better!
Pfizer Pediatric Medications
Pfizer has a line of medications formulated just for kids, so when sick happens, you have a helping hand!
#SickJustGotReal
My favorite is Children’s Advil®, which is great for aches, owies, and fevers and comes in flavor options for your picky eater, including: Sugar-free Dye-free Berry, Bubble Gum, Grape, Blue Raspberry, Fruit and Dye-Free White Grape flavors. There’s also an Infant’s Advil® for 6-23 months, because babies get sick and hurt too! I’ve found that Children’s Advil® works best for my kids, especially when it comes to fevers! (Advil is the same as Ibuprofen FYI)
The other thing I love with the Pfizer line is the cough medicine. Coughs can keep young ones up all night long and sometimes the only thing that helps is snuggles and being upright. Which means for a restless night and crabby morning. Formulated just for kids, Children’s Robitussin® DM Day/Night Pack has a non-drowsy daytime formula to help with congestion and a long-acting nighttime formula to help suppress that sleep-ruining and slow runny noses so they (and us parents!) can get rest. The Children’s Dimetapp® Cold & Cough also helps eliminate stuffy, runny noses and decrease a cough too.
From a nursing perspective, I do want to add in a note here that if your child’s cough sounds like they are coughing stuff out, it’s good to let them cough some rather than suppress that cough 24/7. I typically only use cough medicine at night or for super dry, irritated coughs. Cough and cold medicines don’t actually make the cold go away, only treat the symptoms, and sometimes can have bad side effects in small children. The cold/cough medicine boxes say age 6+ because studies show they are ineffective at younger ages and have unexpected side effects. So remember to try like humidifiers, lots of fluids, and grandma’s remedies like honey and vicks.

when my daughter starts getting a cough she begins breathing treatments and cough syrup. She never gets a cough that goes away on its own. For throw up sick she gets her personal trash can and I try and keep her as comfy as I can until it passes! During sick times I sanitize the crap out of everything!

I manage sick in our home making sure everyone wash their hands. I also use essential oil so that they can rest easily and medication when needed.
