Micah loves kitchen experiments. He asks me daily if we can “make something special” and then proceeds to mix random kitchen ingredients together (often including some cake mix or other powder) to make something “delicious.” Generally it’s the opposite of delicious, but it’s so fun to see him imagination and creativity at work! So I was really excited to receive a Learning Resources Primary Science™ Wow &
Wonder Science Set!
Learning Resources Primary Science™ Wow & Wonder Science Set
This starter science experiment set gives Micah basic tools for doing experiments right in our own kitchen! He can mix, learn about basic things like colors, magnets and air movement, and use his imagination. The kit comes complete with activity cards for me to start with, and then I get to give him the freedom to take it from there. The Wow and Wonder Science Set comes with two “test tubes” and holder, a bubble wand and plate, color-changing glasses, a big horseshoe magnet, and a Twisty Dropper (which he LOVES to suck up liquids in and show me how the liquid goes up into the bulb!). The plastic is thick and durable, and the magnet is big and manageable for little hands.
Micah’s favorite activity thus far is mixing things in the test tubes with the Twisty dropper. And then tasting them. Especially when we add color, like food coloring or sprinkles, and he can see how it changes with mixing. Which is no surprise since his new favorite restaurant activity is mixing condiments with his drink or smoothie to see what happens. “The mustard changes the color, mom, look!!!” I love that this Primary Science set gives him the tools to mix, learn and explore without using all my kitchen utensils and ingredients!
The only downside I’ve noticed with the Learning Resources Primary Science™ Wow & Wonder Science Set is that it comes with the tools but none of the ingredients, so almost every activity requires additional objects. Mostly they are household objects so it’s not difficult to find them, but it would be nice if the kit came with some of the little things, like a paperclip or bubble solution, to complete the activities on the cards.
