I love when spring shows up in Minnesota. It’s a rare thing to be able to run around in shorts and tee’s in April – sometimes even May is rough with several inches of snowfall still. Thankfully this year we’ve had a great spring! I realized as I was going through our wardrobes that I had almost nothing for them for this warm weather. I am a pretty busy mama – so I always want the One-Stop-Shop for an entire wardrobe, at a great price and with great flexibility. OshKosh B’Gosh is my go-to store. My kids love their comfort and fit, and I love their style! And they have clothes that fit from size 0-12 so I’ve still got plenty of time to enjoy their selection.
My youngest, Ethan, who is 4 (and a Half!) years old – has been begging us to take a picnic to the park. We did several picnics last summer and he can’t wait for them. Ethan just loves packing everything up and getting out of the house. He seemingly thinks of everything we need, and if we’re not watching him, we’ll have packed the whole kitchen before we know it. We shopped earlier in the day for some great summer-style clothes at our local OshKosh B’Gosh – so now that we had the clothes to go along with the weather, I figured it was time to get a picnic going. 
On Monday after picking up my oldest from school, we decided to have a back-yard picnic, complete with games and fun. We would have gone to a park except that my husband was coming home at an unknown time, so he was able to join us when he arrived. We pulled out some crafting supplies, and started creating a game: Straw Rocket Races! 
This past weekend we were enjoying a quick lunch out, and like normal I took my straw cover halfway off and blew the other half at Ethan – except that it passed him by and flew right across the room! Ethan tried to replicate it – but his straw paper ripped up before we could blow it. We talked about how fun it would be to have rockets to blow from the top of our straws and race them – so this was the perfect game for us!
The Rockets are super easy to make, We took a sheet of paper and cut it into squares about 3″ x 3″ – although that seemed a little large so we ended up cutting off about an inch on one side. also cutting a strip about 3″ x 1.5″ for the tail. We used some markers to decorate the paper before rolling it over our straws. I suppose we could have got really fancy and used glue to get the rockets closed – but tape was just easier and faster! (Those rocks? I made those a few weeks ago at MOPS as part of an outdoor Tic-Tac-Toe game that the boys also love!)
To make the tail, fold the skinnier piece in half and then cut at an angle, leaving the folded edge in-tact so that it opens into a large triangle.
Andrew was so proud that he was able to make his own star! He’s learned so much in this last year at kindergarten that he even surprises himself sometimes!
I helped putting them together at the end with the tape and all – and then the kids could hardly wait to shoot them! We had shooting races off the deck until it was time for our picnic. While waiting for dad we tried on a few other outfits as well – I just love how the outfits are so easily pair-able and effortless to find a matching top to the bottom. I love the pops of color and that everything just looks good, even though it’s ‘just’ a t-shirt and shorts! And I’m not worried about them wearing out too quickly. Ethan gets a lot of hand-me-downs from Andrew so I need their clothes to last twice as long.

We’ve got some big summer plans considering that my soon-to-be 1st grader will only have two months off – so we need to have clothes that work well together and are comfortable, cute and easy for him to wear.
