We are going to start running! Again. Third time is the charm right?
I pretty much ate whatever I wanted while I was pregnant. So did Peter. And we didn’t exercise….at all. So, now that it’s been 6 weeks since the birth of Emersyn, it’s time to start eating better and exercising again!
We tried to start running the first time when I was pregnant with Micah. I made it a few weeks into our Couch to 5k plan then stated rollerblading while Peter ran. He did awesome! Even completed a 4 mile run and a warrior dash! Then winter hit and we stopped. We started again the next spring, but got too busy between baby, work, Peter’s school and graduating, and life.
Getting Healthy After Having a Baby
Now that we’ve had our second baby, we are mostly settled into our house and life here, and the AZ weather is starting to cool down (I’m talking it drops below 80 at night!), we are going to start again, from the beginning. Plus eating healthy and doing other exercises at home. I need to tone up and increase my endurance. Peter wants to lose weight and increase his endurance. Plus running is good for way more than that!
Running is good for:
- Increasing endurance (physical and mental!)
- Good workout for your heart, lungs, muscles and bones. Basically, the whole body benefits (other than the knees, poor sore knees)
- The brain! Research shows people are more alert and can concentrate better on days they run!
- Losing weight (by burning calories and increasing metabolism)
- Developing better posture
- Sleeping better and living longer, healthier lives
- Good to do as a couple (family) – great opportunity to talk and be together!
- Releases hormones to make us feel good!
- Relieves stress and anger
- Getting outdoors and sunshine!
- Get to explore our area
- Shows our kiddos we value being healthy
- One healthy habit leads to another!

Wow good luck! Feeling like you have your body to yourself again can be great motivation to get healthy after having a baby. Lucky you to have such an awesome stroller! and to have your hubby on board to work out with you sounds great too.

Good for you! I stopped running after I got pregnant due to round ligament pain. Even if I walked fast, it would hurt a lot! I would love to see posts about running with a jogging stroller because I plan on running with my baby. I have read that the BOB is the way to go when it comes to jogging strollers! Thanks!

Make sure to have good running shoes to help block the impact of running. I think it is always a good thing to start exercising and keeping it up. It is awesome that you both can get back into running because it really does help with weight loss. Good luck on your exercise adventure!
