We all know that accidents can happen any time, and that’s why we carry insurance. Yet some people either can’t afford insurance or they can’t get insurance because of their driving record, so they carry an SR22 car insurance policy showing their own personal responsibility in the event of an accident.
We know for sure that going without insurance at all is a huge gamble. You may be a safe driver, but you never know what others are going to do on the road — and you never know what animals you might encounter or what other bizarre accidents might occur.
Here are a few of the top reasons why car accidents happen
The Bus Was Early!
A person was backing out of their driveway and hit a school bus passing by on the road. The excuse? The bus was five minutes early. Gives a whole new way to think about driving on autopilot!
Who Knows?
After an accident, one person reported that he didn’t know who was at fault because “I wasn’t looking.” Um, I think we might have found the culprit….
Too Many Distractions
A man reported that he hit another car because he had one eye on a parked car, another eye on an approaching truck, and another eye on the woman behind him. Is that the metaphorical third eye? We think there might be a disconnect here.
The Lamp Post Did It
A driver reported that a lamp post “bumped into my car” and dented it in two places. Yeah, that’s not really how that works, pal!
Not My Fault!
We’ve all been guilty of having a bit of a lead foot from time to time. One driver unbelievably told an officer who pulled it for speeding that it wasn’t his fault because he couldn’t see the speedometer since he didn’t have his glasses. If only that excuse would work! We’d all be “forgetting” our glasses at home.
Couldn’t See
Another speeder told the officer that the reason he was speeding is that he was trying to knock the snow off his windshield so that he could see. If only there was some other device that could be used for that….
Dumb Cows
Deer are a common problem for drivers, but cows? A man told an officer that a cow “wandered into my car” because the cow was “half-witted.” Sure, that one might almost be believable if cows didn’t move as slow as sap. They surely aren’t any match for a moving car.
The Invisible Car
If a car hits your car but no one is there to see it, does it really happen? One driver thinks so. One driver reported that an “invisible car” hit his car then drove off. The car apparently came “from out of nowhere,” so he couldn’t act fast enough to get out of the way. Maybe it was Wonder Woman at it again?
Bending Road
One driver reported that an accident happened because the road bent. Well, if the road actively changed shape while he was driving on it, we could see this being a reason for an accident. But since roads don’t do that, we have to question this one. Some roads can cause accidents, but not this one.
Hidden Lamp Post
At least this driver recognized that he hit the lamp post and not the other way around. But this driver says he hit the post because it was obscured by people standing in front of it. No word on why he didn’t try to swerve away from them.
No Warning
One driver told the responding officer that the other driver “hit my car without giving any warning.” Generally, that’s how accidents happen. Most people don’t plan to hit another car and then announce their intentions beforehand.
Rise Again
A driver said that he hit a pedestrian because the car in front of him hit the pedestrian, and then the pedestrian rose again. Apparently, seeing a car hit a pedestrian in front of him wasn’t reason enough to slow down.
Canary on the Highway
A driver said that his canary was sick, so he took it to the hospital. At some point, the canary got out of the cage and flew out of the window. It was when the canary suddenly appeared in front of the windshield that he crashed. Lesson learned: Any time you see a canary, it’s bad news.
That or the Pedestrian
Instead of hitting the bumper of the car in front of him, one driver reported that he swerved and hit a pedestrian. It’s unclear if hitting the pedestrian was a deliberate choice or if the pedestrian was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
We understand that things happen, but these are some of the crazier excuses we’ve heard for an accident. What is the most unusual thing that has caused your accident? Share it in the comments!
