Micah LOVES cars. He loves trucks. He loves dad’s remote control car. He loves his little v-tech track with SmartPoints and a talking tow truck. He loves his police cars and pull-back cars, and happy meal cars! So when v-tech sent me a Go!Go! Smart Wheels RC Speedway to review and share (opinions 100% my own as always!) I was thrilled and Micah was ridiculously happy! The V-tech Go!Go! Smart Wheels RC Speedway is a big, exciting and changeable race track for up to 3 RC cars or any Smart Wheels cars.
V-tech Go!Go! Smart Wheels RC Speedway
The first thing I noticed about the V-tech Go!Go! Smart Wheels RC Speedway is that it’s a TON of pieces. Well, 35 track part to be exact, plus a few extra pieces to put together the special action parts. And three sheets of stickers. It’s overwhelming at first, not to mention the box reminded me that it’s 4.5 feet long! As a circle…. so we cleared the floor and started. It took a bit to put together, and Micah was SO excited that we simply put it together and did the stickers afterwards (note to moms – open and put it together when the kids aren’t around, what a fun surprise and WAY easier to do without two kids hanging on every move!).
Setup of the v-tech speedway would have been much easier if the instructions were in color, but we figured it out and got it all together in 1 of the 4 setups in the included instructions. AND IT’S AWESOME! At first Micah just had the car on and was driving it around himself. Then dad put batteries in the remote, switched both the car and remote to setting 3 and pushed forward….and Micah about hit the ceiling in excitement! He immediately took over the controls and stood there driving the car around the track for at least 20 minutes.
V-tech Go!Go! Smart Wheels RC Speedway: Moving Parts
We were really impressed with the V-tech Go!Go! Smart Wheels RC Speedway moving parts: there are 2 places that gears create movement because the underside of the car run a little gear to a point, then releases to continue on it’s way. Not exactly sure how, but it’s awesome. One gear point causes the lift to go up a tower! The other causes a series of gears to turn and the car says “tighten this” or “loosen that.” Another moving part of the v-tech speedway is like a teeter-totter – the car drives up a hill into one end, then keep driving to tilt it and come out the other end. Micah is really impressed by the basic idea and it’s a fun addition to the track. There are also track-switches and flippy-flags to drive through for fun activity.
V-tech Go!Go! Smart Wheels RC Speedway: SmartPoints
The V-tech Go!Go! Smart Wheels RC Speedway has 9 SmartPoints. These SmartPoints exist on a lot of v-tech tracks now and are really cool because when the SmartWheels car drives over top, it talks or makes a noise. One of the points even looks like an oil spill and causes the car to “spin out” and stop for a moment. Micah is excited to see the car light up and make noise, and will be more excited as he gets old and starts to learn from the different points.
V-tech Go!Go! Smart Wheels RC Speedway: Options
The v-tech RC SmartWheels car has three options: off, on, and remote control. Which is awesome for saving batteries, or saving my ears if I need a quiet moment. The remote and car both has another switch to set to frequency 1, 2, or 3 so we can run up to 3 cars at a time without interference! The track only comes with one, but others can be bought separately. The other changeable option: the track can be set up multiple ways for more fun! There are 4 options pictured in the instructions, or make up your own. It is actually a little hard to make up your own and have it successfully connect in a circle, but it’s fun to try, especially for older kids!
Another options is to connect the V-tech Go!Go! Smart Wheels RC Speedway to other v-tech tracks. They all use the same connections, and this one includes one 4-way piece so it can attach to other tracks, whether including them within it or attaching them on the side. The RC cars don’t steer, so if you connect a track without easy-to-follow walls or grippy hills a remotely driven car will get stuck. But it can be driven manually anywhere just like any other car.
V-tech Go!Go! Smart Wheels RC Speedway: Kid-friendly
The V-tech Go!Go! Smart Wheels RC Speedway are virtually unbreakable. Which means my two year old can pull it apart to attempt to put it together in different ways as roughly as his little hands want. And my 1 year old can step on it, chew on it, and watch it get pulled out of her hands by her brother without any fear of damaging it (except maybe water damage to the stickers)!
V-tech Go!Go! Smart Wheels RC Speedway: The Downside
The biggest downside I’m finding to the V-tech Go!Go! Smart Wheels RC Speedway is that it can be frustrating to put together. Micah’s little 2 year old brain wants to connect the hills to each other and not to their appropriate moving parts, and he’s really good at taking a few pieces out of the loop, so then I have to find the instructions to fix it correctly and convince him that the hills only work with their corresponding moving parts.
Other downsides: Like I said earlier, I wish the instructions were in color, it would be a lot easier to tell which pieces go where that way. And it’s really big, so we now have it out in the man-cave where it can sit all put together without being in the way. Otherwise, there really aren’t any downsides.
V-tech Go!Go! Smart Wheels RC Speedway Review
The v-tech Go!Go! Smart Wheels RC Speedway is colorful and fun, talkative and educational, and a toy that will be entertaining for Micah for years to come. Especially if I put it away for a month here or a few weeks there and then break it out again with the excitement and new-toy feeling revived!
